The Sit-In

In 1960 North Carolina, inspired by MLK's demand for desegregation through Sit-Ins, 5 black students sat at a White Only lunch counter. Through 5 months of sometimes violent harassment from White customers, they took to their rightful seats, and eventually a court ruled lunch counters desegregated. By the Mid-60's, over 70,000 protesters took part in Sit-Ins at businesses. The marches for liberation, now partnered with active protest taking place in across the south, DC eventually saw the answer that would bring racial peace. The Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, overwhelming limiting legal racial discrimination.
